OKEHAMPTON Town Council is encouraging the town's residents to apply to fill the councillor vacancy that currently exists.

At full strength, the town council has 14 councillors, seven from the East Ward and seven from the West Ward and it is hoped there will be applicants representing and reflecting the make-up of the community served by the council.

Mindful that all seats will be subject to the elections in May 2015, the council is encouraging broad interest to fill the single vacancy for the remaining portion of this council term.

The mayor, Cllr Paul Vachon, emphasised his desire for the town council and community to work together.

He said: 'We, as a council, welcome active interest from all members of our community and this is a great way to make a difference as a voice of Okehampton.'

For anyone thinking about becoming a town councillor who would like more information, the town clerk or any of the councillors would be pleased to answer any questions or have an informal discussion.

This can be arranged by calling the town council on 01837 53179, or calling in at the Town Hall.
