AS someone who has worked in both the private and public sector since leaving the military I would like to put the record straight on R C Blake's (Letters June 30) generalising and stereotyping in the first portion of his letter, based on my own experiences.
I worked in pharmaceutical research and development for nine years after leaving the forces, and my private sector pension from that term is worth more than three times what my forces pension accrues to.
It is also worth more than twice my 'gold plated' public sector pension, as things currently stand. Plus, my current public sector employer takes a higher percentage of my wage each month for my pension contributions than my previous private sector employer; for a far inferior pension pot.
Whilst working in the public sector I have had to make ends meet to support my family on wages that are approximately only 55% to 60% of what I was earning in the private sector.
In my experience the private sector wins every time, and public sector employees aren't as well off as some would have you believe.
