A CHEQUE for £6,000 raised from the Neal Cousins Memorial Day was presented to patron of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund and television celebrity Noel Edmonds on Sunday.
The money-raising event, the third of its kind, was held back in May in memory of the young Okehampton sportsman Neal Cousins who died from leukaemia at the age of 23.
It involved a rugby match between the town's football and rugby clubs and various other fun events.
Not only has the day drawn the two clubs together over the three years it has also captured the town's attention without whose support the large fundraising total would not be possible.
To date, more than £15,500 has been raised from the Neal Cousins Memorial Day for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund and the organisers are grateful to local businesses and the public for their support and generosity.
The cheque presentation, made by the organising committee of Steve Harris, Andrew Luxton, Paul Penna, Dave Watts and Neal's parents Trevor and Sandra Cousins, followed a friendly game of cricket between the football and rugby clubs.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the charity for the second year running, Mr Edmonds, who lives at Jacobstowe, said it always amazed him how generous the people of the area were when it came to fundraising.
