Devon and Exeter three South Zeal Utd 2

Dawlish Utd 1

THE one goal margin of victory did not reflect the fact that South Zeal could have been five goals up at half time and had several good chances in the second half that were not converted.

The home side took the lead after 15 minutes when a good move down the left resulted in Phil Evans playing a great ball through to Darren Gilbert who beat the Dawlish keeper with a good finish at the near post. South Zeal were all over Dawlish for the first 30 minutes as the visitors defence struggled to cope with the pace of the home's two strikers who were supported well by a mobile midfield, the home went two up when another good move down the left saw Darren Prouse finish well from close range.

South Zeal then sat back and although Dawlish never really threatened, another goal would have made the victory an easier affair; instead with 10 minutes left a shot from the edge of South Zeal's penalty area was deflected past Reg Wonnacott to leave the home side to see out the remaining 10 minutes for the three points.

n The previous week goals from Harley Cann, Darren Gilbert and two from Darren Prouse saw South Zeal progress to the second round of the Devon Senior Cup, although Zeal left it late scoring two late goals.

South Zeal's main sponser this season is 'Your Plumber' and the club thank them for the new kit that was worn for the first time on Saturday.

n This week South Zeal are away to Countess Weir, kick-off 3pm.
