Intermediate county cup Okehampton Argyle Seconds 3 Alliscombe 2 Okehampton progressed to the cup semi final on Saturday with a roll your sleeves up performance against Alliscombe. The Seconds found it hard to produce the quick flowing, passing football that has become their trademark so far this season and soon found themselves giving the ball away far too often to a hard working Alliscombe side. Okehampton opened their account in the 15th minute with a good finish by Darren Prouse. Although the rest of the half was tight it was against the run of play when Alliscombe pulled a goal back and the sides went in at half time 1 ? 1. The second half was much the same, a tight midfield battle with Okehampton creating the better chances with Ollie Bedford and Paul Yip both shooting wide. Okehampton?s second goal came from a spectacular effort from Darren Prouse from outside the box ? bringing his goal drought to an end in style. With 15 minutes to go the referee, who had a great game, had no option but to send off one of the Alliscombe players. The sending off seemed to inspire the ten men to seek an equaliser, unfortunately it was Prouse again who obliged with an own goal trying to cut out a cross from a cleverly worked free kick. It was not quite the hat trick he hoped for. The late goal took the tie into extra time. Alliscombe?s ten men battled hard, but again it was Argyle who were creating the better chances and eventually substitute Stuart Entwistle obliged with the winning goal. The win means a home semi final tie for the Seconds on January 5. l This week Okehampton Seconds are at home to Dawlish United in the East Devon Cup. Kick-off 2pm.
