A SCHEME to boost ancient woodlands has been launched by Dartmoor National Park Authority. The Restoring Ancient Woodland Project is being backed by scheme partners English Nature, the Forestry Commission, the Woodland Trust and Defra. The project, which has two years worth of funding initially, will help Dartmoor landowners restore and enhance their ancident woodlands ? some of which are suffering from neglect, others from the invasion of rhododendron and cherry laurel. Richard Knott, DNPA project officer, said: ?This will need gradual management over decades. It?s not a magic wand ? we have to be very patient.? Landowners who would like advice on maintaining their ancient woodlands or who would like to establish new, native woodlands on their land should call Dartmoor National Park on 01626 832093.
