VOLUNTEERS are sought to help protect wild daffodils by taking part in the Dartmoor Wild Daffodil Hunt. Action for Wildlife, the Dartmoor biodiversity project, is once again collecting records of daffodils within Dartmoor National Park this spring. Most of the daffodils seen each spring are cultivated garden varieties, but native wild daffodils can still be found, usually in woods and meadows close to rivers, although they are not as frequent as they once were. Last year new records of wild daffodils were submitted from the Sheepstor and Burrator areas and it is possible there may be others hidden in river valleys, particularly around the fringes of the national park. Anyone interested in helping locate them can fill in and return a survey form to help Action for Wildlife assess how rare they are. The leaflet and survey form are available from Action for Wildlife on 01626 831072 or at http://www.actionforwildlife.org.uk">www.actionforwildlife.org.uk Leaflets are also available from Devon Wildlife Trust, Dartmoor National Park Authority and Dartmoor National Park information centres.
