TAVISTOCK put up a fine performance on Saturday to beat second placed Chudleigh by six wickets and give themselves a possible shot at promotion in the last three games.

Tavistock won the toss and inserted the opposition on a damp track. Chris Hutchins and Lee Baker kept the openers quiet and progress was slow.

But wickets were kept in hand and a gradual increase in tempo when the spinners were brought on accelerated the scoring.

Jamie Stephens making his firsts XI debut bowled well taking 2-44 while Sean Cleave 2-34 also kept the opposition in check.

134 to win was still a tough ask but Tavistock paced the innings well Aaron Churchill and Ian Grey put on a 37 for the first wicket.

Captain Shaun Daymond contributed a useful 34 and Rhys Davies 27, Sean Cleave and Phil Stephens completed the job to give Tavistock victory by six wickets.
