Tavistock 2nd . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .4

Truro . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0

TAVISTOCK Hockey seconds completed with clinical precision the job of winning against Truro and have gained that elusive promotion position.

The team appointed Thornton as captain for the game in recognition of his loyalty as he leaves Devon for pastures new.

Tavistock's nerves were calmed by an early goal from a Truro defender misjudging his clearance and slotted the ball beyond his goalkeeper's grasp. Tavistock had ample opportunities to make the game safe before the end of the first half but shots went just wide or players were unable to connect with the ball when there was an open goal.

Truro did not give up and the Tavistock defence were put under pressure from a quick forward and a series of short corners.

The second half belonged to Tavistock with almost complete control of the game. The passing was slick, players made opportunities for each other and the tackles were well taken. Mackintosh played a wonderful 35 minutes, scoring his hat-trick, ably assisted by fine crosses from Cheffey, Newman jnr and Jones.

Tavistock can reflect on a very successful season playing the best hockey for years where the younger players showed signs of confidence and the more experienced players showed that while their legs may be a little slower the skills and enthusiasm still remain in abundance.
