Ashmoor 2 Tavistock 1st 4 WITH only two games left of the season a win at Ashmoor would secure them of promotion. After their first encounter where Tavistock did not perform to their full potential the travelling side were desperate to reset the records. The game started evenly for both sides who were playing hockey at a high pace and both creating chances in front of goal. However it was Tavistock who opened up the scoring with a good run into the D from Rose with Hawkins on his rare appearance for the side to slot the ball into the back of the goal. Ashmoor came back at Tavistock hard though and with the marking not as tight at the back as it should have been the home side let slip an Ashmoor goal from open play to level up the scores. Ashmoor continued to punish Tavistock attacking the D from every angle and it was not long before they scored another to take the lead. This gave Tavistock the spark that they needed to compete and now started to play better hockey that was ripping up the Ashmoor defence. Just before half time Tavistock struck back with a power house shot from the top of the D from Rose who raised the spirits of Tavistock and gave them a 2-2 draw going into half time. The second half saw Tavistock raise their game to a standard that Ashmoor were unable to match. The Tavistock midfield of Honey and Manley were in total control and were distributing the ball out wide for Hawkins and Cooley, who were both making some threatening runs down the wing. This soon led to a breakthrough for Tavistock as Vinson was left in the D in front of the keeper to calmly slot the ball into the goal and give Tavistock a well deserved lead. Tavistock then further punished Ashmoor as they worked the ball round the home side's midfield to set up Rose who cleverly dribbled the ball past two defenders to then flick the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net . The final whistle then blew and Tavistock had secured the win and gained promotion. This victory gives Tavistock a seven point gap at second in the table but they still could win the league as they play Exeter Hornets next week to decide the title.
