Devon and Exeter Premier Okehampton 1st 4 Sidmouth Town 1 OKEHAMPTON?S return to the Premier League gets off to a promising start with this convincing win. Sidmouth frustrated Okehampton during the early exchanges, controling their defensive unit well. Ed Squire and Philip Evans were superb in the centre of midfield, winning all the the loose ball for Argyle. After some good end to end football it was Argyle that scored first when Mathew Mortimore cleverly chipped the advancing Sidmouth keeper from 25 yards. With the ball coming back off the upright Robbie Miller was on hand to tap in Argyle?s first on 30 minutes. Sidmouth pushed for the equaliser before the interval, but Argyle?s new look defence of Mathew Mortimore, Tim Williams, Mike Vernon and Warwick Botham soon built up a good understanding to stop any threats. The second half started with Argyle piling on the pressure and were denied several times by the Sidmouth keeper. Okehamptopn got that all-important second goal when Miller played in Adam Mortimore to score from close range. Sidmouth refused to be beaten and the game was back on when they won a free kick 25 yards out and their no 8 headed in from close range. On 80 minutes Miller found Mortimore who chipped the keeper for Argyle?s third. Okehampton?s fourth goal capped a great performance by Ed Squire tapping in from loose range after the Sidmouth keeper failed to hold a Mortimore shot. This week Pinhoe home 3pm.
