THREE village projects for Winkleigh will be launched tomorrow (Friday), with an open invitation to the community to come along and find out more about the wealth of activities taking place in the area.
The 'grand launch' event will offer an opportunity to discover the book 'It's Living History, isn't it?', a leaflet of walks around the area and the Winkleigh House Scouts project, all made possible through grant funding.
The House Scouts is a project for anyone interested in the history of where they live.
It is not necessary to live in an old house to join in as much of the land on which new homes have been built has a rich heritage.
The House Scouts gather information and are gradually building up a wonderful picture of how Winkleigh and the surrounding area has grown over the centuries.
The project is funded by the Local Heritage Initiative and supported by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon.
On display at the Winkleigh grand launch will be some of the information the House Scouts have already unearthed about the local area.
Also being launched at the event is a delightful new colour brochure compiled by Lydia Wesley providing details of local footpaths, with easy to follow maps, so that walkers can explore and enjoy the village of Winkleigh and the beautiful countryside beyond.
The free leaflet which will be available for the first time at the event, has been created through a Tarka Country Millennium Award. Lydia was assisted in this project by mentoring support from the Winkleigh Footpath Group.
A book based on 'oral history' interviews with local residents by Gillian Holman and Peter Monkcom will also be launched tomorrow.
The book called 'It's Living History, isn't it?' offers an amazing insight into how self-sufficient Winkleigh was until very recently.
This project was made possible through another Tarka Country Millennium Award.
There will also be the chance to see photographs taken by Winkleigh schoolchildren while following the Winkleigh Village Trail.
Others whose projects have benefitted from Tarka Awards in the past two years, including photographer Ken Jones and craftsman Benny Venn, will also be on hand to talk about their work.
The event runs from 2pm to 8pm tomorrow (Friday) in Winkleigh Village Hall. Come along and find out what is new in Winkleigh and how you can get involved!
The Tarka Country Millennium Awards, the Winkleigh Society and the Local Heritage Initiative will provide free refreshments throughout the day.
