MANY towns and villages today have a congestion of traffic and parking facilities are very difficult.
Various methods of traffic calming and restricted street parking have been introduced, but many problems still exist.
Recently, my wife had a mid-afternoon appointment at the Chagford Health Centre. On this occasion (well before time) on reaching Lower Street traffic was at a standstill, with at least half an hour?s wait. To keep the appointment it meant walking from that location to the centre in wet conditions. A disabled person would be unable to keep the appointment.
I am aware of some limited parking bays for locals and shoppers, but consider that such areas from Lower Street to the square are very dangerous, and the carriageway width only allows two small vehicles to pass.
This hinders the flow of traffic to a busy shopping location, which it did on this occasion.
Traffic engineers should reconsider this area, being the main approach to the town, before visitors and shoppers are forced away from the many lovely shops that exist at present.
Finally, the recent introduction of pay and display may be acceptable (not to visit the health centre) but I hear it may already add to problems existing at present.
