FOLLOWING years of traffic problems, a Kelly Bray road will now be surveyed to see if traffic restrictions can relieve ongoing problems for the local community.

Residents who live on Florence Road, which connects the A388 to the A390 in Kelly Bray, have been blighted with oversized vehicles, coaches and fast cars using the minor road as a cut-through between the two main roads through Callington.

However, following the intervention of Callington's Cornwall councillor Andrew Long, whose division borders the road, and his colleague on the town council, Heather Jones, the highways department has announced it will launch a survey of the road in the autumn to ascertain the numbers and sizes of vehicles using the road, along with the speed.

'There has been a problem on this particular route for a number of years, but I am glad that finally the council appears to be taking this problem seriously,' said Mr Long.

'The road is deteriorating rapidly and if action is not taken soon to protect the surface, not to mention the lives of the residents and businesses along the route, we will be looking at a far bigger problem both financially and socially in the future.'
