THE award-winning Percy's Country Hotel and Restaurant at Coombeshead has scooped another honour recognised as an 'Oscar' in the hotel and guest accommodation industry.

Dedication and hard work by owners Tony and Tina Bricknell-Webb have put Percy's firmly on the country hotel map with the prestigious RAC Blue Ribbon award, given for achieving consistently high standards in all aspects of hotel keeping.

The RAC's annual awards rate hotels for food quality and service, guest care for both service and hospitality, cleanliness, housekeeping, public rooms, exterior and interior appearance, up-keep and safety.

No strangers to awards, Percy's has won the Best Restaurant in the West in the Taste of the West Country Cooking Awards 2000, finalist Chef of the Year and Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year.

Mr Bricknell-Webb said when the couple arrived in 1996, they completely refurbished the old buildings, combining modern architecture with the traditions of a country house.

'We have tried and I hope succeeded in making Percy's a unique place through attention to detail, so that our customers feel really special and want to return,' he said.

'With 130 acres, many of our guests walk the estate and take advantage of the spectacular rugged moorland views as well as appreciating the wild life and fauna.'

The Bricknell-Webbs recently planted a 60-acre woodland which has been designed with a 'Food from the Forest' theme that will increase the couple's home grown produce.

The estate is organically managed and provides some game, lamb and goose for the restaurant to complement the fresh herbs, salads and vegetables grown in the kitchen garden.
