AN artist from Princetown has signed up to ride 200 miles for charity.
Grant Wallace will attempt ‘The Crossing’ — a 200 mile mountain bike ride from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Scarborough in Yorkshire — with the goal of raising £750 for Children with Cancer UK.
The challenge will be extra tough for Grant as last year, on the way to work, he fell and broke his ankle. He currently walks with the aid of crutches and a protective boot on his left leg.
Grant said: ’Once my physiotherapy starts I shall we working on achieving a level of fitness that I have never before experienced.’
But he added that the aim of the challenge was to raise needed funds for the charity: ‘I am very pleased to be able to support Children with Cancer UK. Based in Great Ormond Street, London, Children with Cancer UK has a clear mission — to improve survival rates and quality of survival in young cancer patients and to find and reduce the causes of cancer.’
Grant said: ‘One of the ventures I shall be doing in order to achieve my target of £750 is a number of sponsored art events at local venues. I shall offer drawing, portraits and paintings in return for pledges to my fundraising page. I have always been artistic and since moving to Princetown last year, I have produced more artwork than ever before.’
