WALKERS will be greeted by an Okehampton 'wonderdog' decked out in pink next month for an annual charity walk. Tricky the 15-year-old Terrier cross and her owner Mary Barkwell from Okehampton will welcome walkers, runners and pooches to the event which starts at Okehampton Rugby Club on Sunday, June 1. The event at 11am has been organised by the Pink Ladies' Committee of Hatherleigh and Okehampton. Mary, a member of the committee, said Tricky will greet walkers in her 'pretty' pink outfit. She said: 'I will be proud to have her up there dressed in pink. She will have her pink outfit on of a breast cancer coat, boots and a sweat band — we are going to make her pretty in pink. 'Thirteen months ago she was given a three month lifespan and she is still here — I will be proud to show her off.' Participants are able to choose either the six-mile or the 13-mile route for the Moor Walk — but are all urged to make pink the colour of the day and to come dressed accordingly. The walk has been organised by the committee as part of the Cancer Research UK's All Join Together Campaign, which aims to make all women aware of their risk of breast cancer and to raise funds to tackle the disease. Sylvia Arlett, the charity's Devon area manager, said: 'We have such fun with this event, there is a great atmosphere and the event is open to men, women, children and pets. 'This is the ideal opportunity to take your dog out for a walk whilst raising vital funds for breast cancer research, so come on you dog lovers, put your best foot forward. And there will be a prize on the day for the best dressed dog.' On the day there will be refreshments on sale and a free goody bag for each walker.
