Okehampton U15s 57

Bideford U15s 0

OKEHAMPTON gave another impressive display with this victory. Despite the driving rain the young Okes starved the visitors of possession, stealing all their scrum ball and almost !00% of second phase ball.

Sam Turner opened the score with a strong drive from ten yards after winger Jack Preston made the initial break. From the restart kick, Stewart Down caught the ball and linked with both scrum half and centre to make 60 yards before the ball was knocked on. The scrum ball was taken against the head and No 8 Simon Cox went blind for the converted try near the posts.

Soon after Down at fly half chipped the ball over the Bideford defence allowing winger Ian Brooks to fly through and hack on, controlling the ball well and touching down in the corner. Andy Herrod-Taylor converted from the touchline.

Bideford worked hard to keep the ball before fumbling in midfield. Paul Lawrence racing up as openside flanker pounced on it, shrugging off the tackles to run 30 yards for the score.

Okehampton continued to play well, changing the point of attack with switches in midfield and releasing the ruck ball quickly. Richard Bolt scored a characteristic try from 60 yards with his pace and power. Jack Preston on his debut showed similar speed to end the half with a converted try and a 36-0 lead.

Gary Sizmur opened the second half with his first try for the team after jinking through the whole opposition, slowing twice to look for support before realising he didn?t need it!

Cox scored his second after the ball was chipped downfield and hacked on twice. He picked it from the base of the ruck, jumping over it to find the gap.

The final try came from Preston with a strong run as he powered through the tackles from 30 yards. Herrod-Taylor converted six of the nine tries.

This week home to Exmouth, kick-off 11am on the main pitch. Come and support the squad and enjoy some excellent rugby.

Sidmouth U12s 24

Okehampton U12s 7

PLAYING in atrocious wet and windy conditions, Okehampton never got into this game. They allowed Sidmouth too much room to run and along with some poor

tackling gave away two tries each half.

The good points were made by a determined run from Robert Long to score from a penalty tap just inside the Sidmouth half, converted by Richard Friend.

Ricci Cobb and Scott Simpson made some good driving runs, but lack of support meant play came to a halt.

Sidmouth U9s 35

Okehampton U9s 45

PLAYING in driving rain and gale force winds Okehampton recorded their second away win of the season.

In the first half they played excellent rugby in atrocious conditions. Good driving play by the forwards saw Dan Curtis score two tries within five minutes.

Felix Gardner in only his second game, scored a good individual try.

Further pressure resulted in tries for Matt Johns and Thomas White.

At half time and 25-0 up Okehampton rang the changes and in far from ideal conditions for the newcomers Sidmouth began to find space. But resilient defensive work kept them at bay and allowed Buster Francis and White to score two further tries each.
