Christmas Day in Tavistock United Reformed Church was a great day of celebration — 76 people gathered together for a traditional turkey meal followed by Christmas pudding.
A few carols and party games were enjoyed before watching the Queen's broadcast. After a cup of tea with Christmas cake, gifts were presented to all before they returned home.
It was a very happy occasion and all went smoothly without a hitch, thanks to the many people, drawn from all walks of life, who contributed in so many ways.
One of the people who helped commented that, 'This was the best and happiest Christmas Day I have ever known!'
In addition to the many people who gave up their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to prepare, cook, serve or transport etc, there were many others and local businesses who contributed financially or in kind to make this day possible.
These included: Alliance Disposables SW Ltd, the Co-op, J and S Downing, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, The Horn of Plenty, Morrisons Supermarket, R Moule (Builder), Somerfield Stores, Tavistock Area Support Services, Tavistock Cake Craft, Tavistock Rotary Club and all who gave generously at the Salvation Army Carol Service.
Plans are already underway for Christmas Day 2009. Perhaps you might like to join us this year?
The Rev Roger Cornish, Major Carol Lockhart and Captain Penny Sullivan
