REHEARSALS are drawing to a close for Tavistock College’s production of Oliver! The Musical.

The show is seven months in the making and will see three performances in the school’s main hall on July 14 to 16.

The Dickensian tale will take on an interesting aesthetic twist as the props, costumes and sets will all have a striking steampunk quality. This effect has been achieved through the work of the textiles and art departments, as well as the students themselves.

Organised by Eva Pearson, the head of the school’s drama department, the production features a whole-school cast ranging from ages 11 to 17, the star of the show himself being among the youngest.

Drama students as well as those looking to try something new have enjoyed being involved in preparing the musical, one of the school’s many frequent and popular productions.

Suitable for ages eight and upward, the production is based on Merrick and Albrey’s Broadway masterpiece, featuring songs not included in the much beloved 1960s film.
