TOP international viola player Sarah-Jane Bradley will be performing at the Wharf on December 1.

Sarah-Jane leapt to world prominence as founder and viola player with the great Leopold String Trio. In 1998 she left the Leopolds and joined the Sorrel String Quartet, and is also forging a career as one of the world's foremost soloists in her instrument.

Hailed by many as 'The New Lionel Tertis' — Tertis was arguably the greatest violist the world has ever produced — Sarah-Jane has given recitals and concerts in all corners of the globe, from South America to Azerbaijan.

Accompanied by her husband, pianist Jonathan Ayerst, himself a performer of international renown, Sarah-Jane's recital will include music by Brahms, Bach and Chopin.

Also in the concert will be the world premiere of Adrian Vernon Fish's viola sonata 'Qaanaaq'. Written for Sarah-Jane in late 1999 and early 2000, the work is inspired by the view across Inglefield Sound from the tiny town of Qaanaaq, in Northwest Greenland; the northernmost municipality in the world.

In the final movement, the piece makes use of an Eskimo drumsong by Angussuanguaq Duneq from Qaanaaq district.

The Wharf is delighted not only to be the venue for the world premiere, but also to welcome musicians of such stature as Sarah-Jane Bradley and Jonathan Ayerst.
