CHURCHES in Okehampton will be engaging in a a week of prayers for Christian unity later this month. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a worldwide movement of Christians of many denominations, languages, and great diversity of race and culture, and runs from January 18 to 25 each year. Christians Together in Okehampton, is organising the week of prayer locally. The Rev Mark Thomas, chair of Christians Together in Okehampton said: ?At a time when there is so much emphasis on the things that divide us, it is good to be able to celebrate together our common faith.? The week of prayer will consist of a daily opportunity for prayer and reflection held in St James? Church each weekday, and a celebration on Sunday, January 22 at 6pm in New Life Church. The theme for 2006 is ?Where two or three are gathered together? (from Matt 18:15-22), and was chosen by the Churches in Ireland on behalf of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland.
