THE hard-working staff who helped set up and man the streets during the busiest day of the year in Tavistock came in for some hearty praise at a meeting in the town last week. The town council?s works department, headed by superintendent Wayne Southall, had spent weeks preparing for Goose Fair and were involved in additional management of the event on the day itself this year. Cllr Mandy Govier, chairman of the council?s properties committee, said: ?We always congratulate the people for the clear up, but that?s actually the borough council?s role. ?It?s the lads that work for us, who work so hard, doing extremely long hours and being all things to everyone, who need a big thank you ? they?ve done a wonderful job.? The committee also congratulated Mr Southall on his recent success in his recent NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health course. Cllr Brian Trew said: ?The qualification that Wayne has gained is very significant ? it?s the top course in the country as far as health and safety management is concerned and we should think ourselves very lucky that we have someone who is not only a chartered engineer but NEBOSH qualified.?
