FOR a long time now there has been much correspondence concerning proposed developments at Weir Quay boat club. There are clearly widely divergent opinions as to whether these are acceptable or inappropriate in an area of outstanding natural beauty, (AONB).

What I cannot understand, however, is why no-one seems to be concerned about the hideous power lines that pass right over the River Tamar, Bere Alston peninsular and River Tavy. In my view these are far, far more of an issue for an AONB than, what seems to me, is a very modest boat club proposal.

I realise that the power lines predate the AONB status, but is it not about time that people had their priorities right? These cables should be underground as many countries are starting to do. I know that costs are higher, but what price the environment? After all this government did say that they will be the greenest ever.

Perhaps the various local organisations that claim to have care and concern for the area should get together and tackle the environmental blight those power lines cause.
