EVERY year Lions Clubs International sponsors a poster competition – this year the title is 'Peace Begins with Me'. This is an international competition with a great prize — a trip to the award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York, and a cash award of over £1000! Entrants must be eleven, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15. The Lions Club of Tavistock has extended the competition on a local level so that younger children can also take part. Organiser, Lion Alan Wroath, said he was delighted with the number of schools that had become involved. He said: 'We know how busy schools are at this time of the year, but there are currently six primary schools taking part, together with students from Tavistock College, so we are expecting some great entries.' The presentation evening for the poster competition will be part of Tavistock carnival week and will be held in the parish rooms at 6pm on Thursday July 17. The following week there will be an exhibition of the posters in the Tavistock Library. Primary schools taking part are Horrabridge, Lamerton, Mary Tavy and Brentor, Milton Abbot and St Andrew's in Buckland. Anyone else between the ages of eight and 13 who would like to take part should email [email protected]">[email protected] for more details. The closing date is Friday June 13.
