Hundreds of people have already attended consultation events to view and discuss West Devon Borough Council's preferred plans for the future development of Okehampton and Tavistock up to 2026.

Two midweek events have already been held in Tavistock and Okehampton.

Two additional meetings will be held on Saturday October 11, in Tavistock Parish Rooms from 10am to 4pm and on Saturday October 18 at Cosdon Room at the Ockment Centre, Okehampton also from 10am to 4pm.

The consultations have already generated constructive feedback.

Chris Dunford, planning policy manager, said: 'We are very pleased with the level of interest shown and have received a number of very interesting comments which we will be carefully considering.

'I hope that residents and business people put a little time aside and come along to look at the proposals.'

The long term vision for both towns is that planning is based on the needs of the whole community, not just finding sites for housing.

New health services, improving public transport, expansion of employment opportunities and educational facilities are among the priorities the council is seeking to provide for the towns.

Mr Dunford added: 'Our planning officers will be on hand to help explain the proposals along with county council officers involved in this process. All are welcome.'
