PLANS to create a specially designed community space in Princetown got under way recently with a village debate.

More than 320 people ? half the village population ? attended an open day at Lord?s restaurant on March 6 to contemplate the community?s future.

Residents of all ages joined in the debate and some productive discussion was initiated regarding where the village centre would be sited and what facilities it should offer.

Popular ideas included a health centre, recreation facilities and a youth club.

Jenny Coleman from the High Moorland Action Group said: ?It was great to see such a phenomenal number of householders at the open day.

?It shows how much Princetown?s people care about their village, and how many great ideas they have for its future. Thanks to all for coming and contributing.?

A report giving details of villagers? ideas is being drawn up and will be made public in the near future.

The report will form the basis of a development strategy for the community aimed at making Princetown a centre for moorland activity, culture and opportunity. Anyone who was unable to attend the open day or who wishes to contribute more ideas can contact Jenny Coleman on 01822 890732.
