THE busy season still continues at Tavistock Golf Club with the Captain's charity day , the mixed team open as well as the club competitions all well supported by members. 

St Luke's Hospice and the Tavistock branch of the Muscular Dystrophy Society are captain Roy Friend's charities for his year and, despite strong winds and blustery showers, 156 players took part. 

The winning mens pairing of Brett Mannering and Sam Hurdwell had an excellent 42 points winning on countback from Phil Gawman and Mark Sloman and Dominick Rehaag and Shaun Getson.  The best mixed pair with 39 were George and Nicky Gawman with 39 and the best ladies pair were Gail Reed and Fran Horton with 39.

The mixed team open event attracted a good field and the winning team with 80pts were the Tavistock team of Alan Gawman, George and Nicky Gawman and Lyn Swift.  Tavistock also took second place with Maggie and Rod Hillman, Jayne Wright and Graham Ruth with 75.  Completing the Tavistock hat trick were Fran and Graham Horton and Dawn and Bill Phillott with 74.  The best visitor team were Jane and Colin Wayman, Margaret Jeffs and Graham Green with 71 from Exeter and Stover.   

In the men's monthy Stableford Mike Burbidge was first in division one with 41pts, second Lee Zilwood 39 pts and third with 27 pts Sam Jessop on countback from Bill Phillott.  In the second division first was Les Tocher with 39 pts, in second place was Rob Staniland with 37 pts and third was Paul Stewart with 36 pts.

In the ladies closed meeting the Molly Muirhead Salvers for the best scratch Sslver was won by Jayne Wright with a gross 83 and the best scratch bronze was won by Hazel Cash with gross 98.  The best nett score for the Chris Leach Trophy was won by Nicky Gawman with nett 73.  Nicky was also first in the silver division with her nett 73, second Jayne Wright nett 75, third Penny Deakin nett 77.  In the bronze division one first was Hazel Cash nett 76, second Sue Coles nett 81 and third Margot Angel nett 82.  First in bronze division two was Kate Harding nett 73 on countback from Marion Stenhouse and third Sue Pratley nett 76.  The monthly nedal was played in conjunction with the Grandmothers Cup.  Jayne Wright topped division one with nett 71, second, on countback from Tracey Sutcliffe, was Patty Congo with nett 79.  In division two first was Marion Stenhouse with nett 74, second Val Jarman nett 76 and third Jill Millichamp with nett 79. The Grandmothers Cup was won by Jill Millichamp with nett 79 on countback from Patty Congo.

In the junior section the W G Westlake foursomes was won by Mike Henderson and Arun Caines with 40pts, second with 30 were Bridie Sampson and Jamie Ninnis.  In the Frank White medal Will Notley had nett 72 in division one, second was Pete Page with nett 76.  In division two first was Arun Caines nett 76 and second Matt Green with nett 80.
