THE mayor of Okehampton has a special personalised Christmas card to send out this year, thanks to pupils from Okehampton Primary School.

Cllr the Rev Mike Davies' mayoral Christmas card is adorned with a picture of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer and some Christmas trees, designed by Year 4 pupil Poppy Benstead.

Poppy was the winner of a school competition to design a Christmas card for the mayor and the town council. Mayor Davies popped into the school on Friday to present Poppy with her prize of a deluxe art set.

He also presented second place Dominiqua Sionko and third place Alfie Farrimond with pen sets for their efforts.

Poppy was amazed when the mayor told her she had won the competition, and her card had been sent out to hundreds of people to put on their mantelpieces.

She said: 'I don't know what to say. I am so surprised!'
