THE final race of Weir Quay Sailing Club's Frostbite dinghy race series was sailed in almost zero wind on Sunday week — a change from all the strong winds of late.
Only three boats braved the early 9.30am start and heavy frost to participate in the race on the River Tamar.
The tide turned an hour early due to the continuous rain of late. This, combined with the light airs, made it almost miraculous that Rob Brereton in the Wayfarer 'Popple' managed to complete two laps in the hour set for the race, the remaining boats failing to finish in the allowed time.
The results of the six race Frostbite series are:
Fast handicap: 1, John Tomlinson, Wayfarer, 'Final Chance'; 2, Rob Brereton, Wayfarer, 'Popple'; 3, Tim Houghton, Wayfarer.
Slow handicap: 1, Ben Houghton, Mirror, 'Who's Blue'; 2, Daniel Newcombe, Mirror, 'Flip Flop'; 3, Ian Brooks, Mirror, 'Marnen'.
