Milton Abbot v

Tavistock thirds

TEN man Tavistock, rooted to the bottom of the table, travelled to unbeaten top of the table Milton Abbot at Baxter Park on Saturday.

But Tavistock showed a positive attitude and elected to bat.

They soon found themselves on the end of a withering storm of lively deliveries from the Milton attack of Riggs and Patrick (1-35). Showing some true grit the Tavistock openers of Dhanjal (22) and Wellhard (17) rode the storm to leave the door open for the middle order to plunder runs off the Milton first change bowling. Poppe, Whitfield and Cole were scoring freely with some positive stroke play. Poppe reproducing some vintage cricket stole the show with a superb big hitting 44. Whitfield signalled his intent with a six off the first ball and then continued with a solid knock of 23.

New player Cole showed what an asset he is going to be with a robust 17 to cement 162 for Milton to chase. Pick of the Milton bowling was a good tight 2-27 from Riggs and 3-17 from Holding picking up the tail enders.

Tavistock bowled a good line and length in order to pressure Milton. This they did with results following soon after. Poppe backed up his superb knock with the bat soon had Milton reeling with three of the top order soon back in the pavilion after his opening spell.

Poppe found good support in the form of a tight spell from young colt Ben Crowl who bowled six overs for only 1-11 runs — scant reward for some good accurate bowling. Where Poppe and Crowl had started Milton's downfall, Whitfield carried it on with a rapid haul of four wickets to finally snuff out any prospect of Milton reaching their target.

Milton's opener Vowler who had put up stiff resistance eventually fell to Folley caught by Whitfield and with this the end was signalled for Milton. All out for 82, Tavistock had pulled off with great style the most unlikely of results to win by 80 runs.
