TAVISTOCK?S Meadowlands Leisure Pool is expected to re-open on Monday January 23 following urgent maintenance work. The pool has been closed to the public since last Wednesday (January 11) to allow essential repairs after a piece of aluminium cladding had become dislodged. It was hoped to reopen today (Thursday) but following a thorough examination of the roof void, it was decided to carry out further work while contractors were on site. Terry Beckett, leisure officer for West Devon Borough Council, said: ?We are extremely sorry that regular pool users have been inconvenienced by the closure, however, we needed to carry out a thorough examination of the roof void and took the opportunity to renew some fittings and re-secure all the cladding. ?Local contractors have undertaken the work at very short notice and the council is very grateful to them for their co-operation. ?I hope people will understand that Meadowlands needs to be closed at this time in the interests of safety.? The council?s other swimming pool at Parklands in Okehampton is operating its normal public swimming programme and can be contacted on 01837 659154.
