FOUR members of the same family represented the Mid Devon Pony Club at the Spooners & West Dartmoor?s Triathlon/Tetrathlon in Tavistock at the weekend. Katie Malseed was taking part in her first ever Triathlon, and she showed a lot of promise in the senior girls class, and along with Kim Bland from the Eggesford, was part of the winning team. The class was won by Mid Devon?s Charlotte Rowe, with her sister Rebecca, making a welcome come-back after injury, coming fourth and Lucy Almond sixth. Charlie had the best swim in the class, and Rebecca the best shoot. Although he is still a junior, Will Leech stepped up to compete at senior level for the first time, and gave an encouraging performance, although he was beaten into second place by UK international Toby Ryan from the Lamerton Pony Club. In the junior girls class, the Mid Devon?s team of three did brilliantly to win the triathlon, with Rosa Malseed coming first, and having the best run, Lottie Trerise coming third, with best swim, and Jess Mortimore securing fourth place, and the best shoot. The following day, Jess managed a clear round to move herself up to third place in the Tetrathlon. Richard and John Malseed competed in the mini boys triathlon class, and did very well against some stiff competition. John managed a personal best in every phase, and was only seconds off achieving the best run in the class.
