VACANCIES have arisen on Tavistock Town Council following the resignation of two councillors.

Following the resignations of Cllr Harry Smith and Cllr Jeff Moody the vacancies are for the north ward of Tavistock.

Cllr Harry Smith resigned in April, followed by Cllr Jeff Moody last week (May 22) who said he wanted to spend more time with his family.

Cllr Moody said: ‘It’s been a very busy year for us with West Devon duties and mayoral engagements and I needed a break from Tavistock Town Council to spend more time with my family. I will still be on West Devon Borough Council though and will continue to represent the people of Tavistock North and the borough to the best of my ability.

‘And after all, there will be council elections again in May 2019.’

A by-election to fill the vacancies will be held if within 14 days of the date of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Bank Holidays) ten electors from the north ward of the parish give notice in writing to the returning officer requiring that such an election be held.
