THE Bristol Brass Consort is at the Wharf, Tavistock, on Saturday.
Founded in 1985, this is a symphonic brass ensemble that aims to provide audiences with high quality performances of the established works as well as lesser known pieces and new commissions from local composers.
Originally formed as a quintet the consort now boasts a vast repertoire of concert music for up to 18 players in various instrumental combinations. Highlights of past performances include a 'Songs of Praise' broadcast on BBC television and radio. The ensemble has also recently performed Elgar Howard's virtuoso arrangement for brass of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition in Bristol and Weston Super Mare.
The ensemble has some of the most experienced brass players in the Bristol area amongst its members but also seeks to encourage and develop new talent.
