TWO male Polish farmworkers who went missing from the Winkleigh area died last week after going for a swim in a pond. The men appeared to have been taking a break from the hot weather at the pond near Beaford, on Sunday, June 26, when they got into difficulty. Following a search by the police underwater unit and local officers, the bodies of Krzysztof Kwiechien, aged 41, and Norbert Bednarsky, 26, were found at the pond. Both men had been working in the Winkleigh area and fears for their safety were raised by workmates on Sunday night when they did not return. Police said post-mortem examinations would be carried out but the matter was not being treated as suspicious.
