POLICE are asking residents to be vigilant following a telephone scam.

An elderly woman in Tavistock received a call from an unknown man who said he was trying to trap a fraudster who was targeting elderly females. He requested the use of her online bank account to move monies between accounts.

The man then tricked her into installing a remote access app on her computer before taking control of her account even when she had closed it.

In the following weeks he created new accounts, made loan requests and moved money between her accounts before transferring it out to another account. The reports came between August 1 to September 10. CR/83402/18.
