I READ, with concern and increasing incredulity, your report (May 19) on the anti-social and criminal behaviour that Okehampton 2nd Brownies are experiencing on a weekly basis. Concern at such behaviour is natural but what I find incomprehensible and incredulous is the reported police response to it. Here we have criminal behaviour, reported to the police, taking place on a weekly basis and at the same location. The only response from the police spokesman is that ?Whilst I can never promise resourcing on a particular day, it is something we would be happy to consider?. How kind of them to consider it. We are constantly told that we have more police officers than ever before and that we live in a low crime area but it seems it is problematic if one can be found to deal with a reported recurring problem on a known day and location. Is it any wonder that the increasing yob element have no fear of, or respect for, the police or that the general public is losing confidence in the police to carry out basic policing?
