A TAVISTOCK police officer is currently investigating a series of bilking offences at supermarket filling stations across the county and hopes someone will be able to help him locate the suspect.
During each incident, a male fills up a Rover 600 car with unleaded fuel and leaves without paying. Police say the man appears to be CCTV conscious, taking care to conceal his face, and the car appears with differing registration numbers.
PC Colin Taylor said: 'The offences always take place at supermarket filling stations. The car is usually described as being silver in colour but one witness thought it may have been a pale gold.
'We suspect the offender is making slight changes to the registration plate each time. The format is of the old single letter prefix, eg, A123 BCD, but in every case, the middle number is 4 and the middle letter is T. Numbers used include 649, 640, 648, 548.'
Information can be passed to PC Taylor on 08452 777 444 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting police reference JT/08/1362.
• The offences have taken place at: Tavistock, November 29 2007 and 2008 and February 2008; Totnes, March and September 2008; Exeter, April 2008; Barnstaple, May 2008.
