POLICE in Okehampton are currently trying to increase the safety of road users in the town by making efforts to eliminate driving offences.

Police recently issued two drivers with fixed penalty notices for overtaking moving or stationary vehicles on a pedestrian crossing.

The offence happened in School Way where a large amount of traffic gathers in the school rush hour.

Police will be paying particular attention to this area as it has been identified as a dangerous and illegal occurrence which too many road users have now adopted.

Officers will also be enforcing mobile phone offences following an increase in the amount of drivers using mobile phones while driving.

There will be an ongoing operation within Okehampton and surrounding areas to eliminate this for the safety of all road users.
