A DEVON and Cornwall policewoman has appeared in court charged with covering up an arrest and hiding an offensive weapon on Dartmoor.

Sarah Cohen, from Lifton faced two charges when she appeared before North and East Devon magistrates court last Friday.

The 35-year-old is accused of intending to pervert the course of public justice at Meldon, Devon, in November 2011 — namely 'concealing an arrest and an offensive weapon'.

She is also charged with wilfully misconducting herself by carrying out the alleged acts while acting as a police officer.

The case was sent to crown court and Cohen was bailed until later this month when she will appear before a judge. She did not enter any pleas.

A force spokesman said:'Devon and Cornwall Police Professional Standards Department are carrying out a criminal  investigation supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) into the conduct of a police constable  who is stationed in Cornwall.

'The officer is currently suspended from duty.'
