POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a teenage driver suffered serious injuries following a collision with a tree in Yelverton.

The green Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway and collided with a tree on the A386 at Chubb Tor, near Yelverton Golf Club on Sunday, March 6 at around 6.50am.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision.

Fire appliances from Yelverton and Crownhill were mobilised to the incident.

On arrival, crews confirmed the incident involved one vehicle and one female who was trapped within the vehicle.

Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle to assist in releasing the casualty.

Crews also made the scene and vehicle safe.

The 18-year-old female driver from Plymouth was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Derriford Hospital where she currently remains. She suffered multiple injuries, including serious leg and head injuries.

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out and the road was reopened at 1.30pm.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
