POLICE are appealing for information after an unexplained fire at Lady Beam Court in Kelly Bray on January 24.

Neighbours saw smoke coming from the three-storey property at around 11am and alerted the fire brigade.

The residents were not at home at the time and officers are treating the fire as unexplained.

Callington PCSO Mark Stribley said: 'We don't know if the fire started on its own or was started deliberately.'

The privately rented property was found to be secure, apart from a small window casement which was open.

There was extensive smoke damage but Callington firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the lounge area.

Tenants of the property have been temporarily rehoused but most of their belongings have been destroyed by smoke damage which rose to the second and third floor, added PCSO Stribley.

'In terms of the damage caused it was quite significant,' he said. 'The patio doors and windows have to be replaced and the electrics.

'We have done house to house enquiries but at the moment we are still treating the fire as unexplained. We are looking for anyone who has information to come forward.'
