POLICE are appealing for help in tracing two men who may be connected with a string of burglaries in the Okehampton area.
A detached house in Stockley was broken into some time between 11am and 5.35pm on Wednesday (December 4). A window was forced open and property stolen included cash worth £250, a wrist-watch with brown leather strap and a heavy gold chain.
Later the same day, between 6pm and 6.10pm, the occupants of a house in Sourton heard a noise and found a man coming in through their front door. He immediately fled. He was described as a white male, aged 17 to 18, wearing a beige woolly hat and top.
Also on the same day, thieves broke into a house in Gidleigh by smashing a window. They searched two rooms, but nothing appears to have been stolen. This incident occurred some time between 7.40am and 5.20pm.
One of the men the police wish to speak to is described as white, 5ft 3ins tall, in his 20s, very thin with sharp facial features and a very pale complexion. He was wearing a trilby hat and dark overcoat.
The other was white, 5ft 6ins tall, very thin and in his early 20s. He was wearing an old dark anorak and a dark woolly hat.
Police are also interested in a blue Vauxhall car seen the day after the burglaries in the Tavistock and Lifton areas. It was driven by a man with male passengers, who approached several people and made strange enquiries.
On one occasion they asked someone if there was any work in the area and on another where they could find some holly.
Anybody who recognises the descriptions of the two men or has seen the car is asked to contact Crimestoppers or Okehampton police.
