Devon League C division 2nd XI Tavistock 2nd XI v Chudleigh 2nd XI TAVISTOCK were given a great start with Cashell 34 and Strawbridge 37 putting on 78 for the first wicket, but when they were out Kaminski soon followed and Tavistock were 92 for three. The revival was led by captain McGahey with 38 and Andy Rich, 16, but when they went out, giving catching practice to the opposition, it was left to the old guard of John Rich, 26, and Dave Jeffery, 30, to give Tavistock a good total of 218. Dave Jeffery?s innings included two huge sixes over deep mid on ? one cleared the clubhouse. The Chudleigh reply was slow going with good accurate bowling from Baker and Thomas. Thomas yorked Haward and Chudleigh were 4 for 1. Chudleigh never got going. Ben Neale bowled a tight spell, taking 2 for 29 off 9 overs. At 120 for 3 the game seemed to be sliding away to a dull draw, but Baker came back into the attack and trapped Mason lbw for 38. Kaminski came on at the other end and the pressure told when Shaw tried to take two runs to McGahey, whose throw was right next to the stumps and ran him out. The next ball Taylor was caught and bowled by Kaminski and Tavistock were into the tail. Captain Trout followed, bowled by Baker, but despite trying everything Tavistock could not winkle out the last two wickets, leaving Chudleigh 139 for 8. This leaves Tavistock in second place, seven points behind Chudleigh and six points ahead of third. This week?s game at home to Plymouth Civil Service, meaning Tavistock need 15 points to be assured of promotion.
