The group was welcomed by town crier Bob Rose, the mayor of Tavistock Cllr Jenny Metcalf and the mayor of West Devon, Cllr Christine Grills, who presented a gift of a blue glass bowl to the German visitors.
Cllr Grills, after a few words in German, said: ?I wish you all a very warm welcome ? I hope you enjoy your stay in West Devon, it?s lovely to see so many of you here.?
Club West Devon and Club Wesseling have built up strong ties over the years ? as Wesseling club member Addy Lauer said, the friendships between the Germans and English were marvellous to see and particularly poignant in the week following the D-Day commemorations.
Mr Lauer said: ?We are always very happy and very grateful to come to West Devon. We have a very good programme of events organised and even the weather has been very fine!?
The German visitors arrived in Tavistock at the beginning of last week and after several days of visits and entertainment, left for home on Friday.
