Carlsberg South Western League Falmouth Town 1 Callington Town 0 ONCE again, the young guns of Callington battled from first to last whistle at Bickland Park against trophy chasing Falmouth and but for some wayward finishing they could have really upset their opponents. The home side met stout defending by the Callington back four and the safe hands of teenage keeper Jamie Harrison. For the majority of the first half, Falmouth were in the ascendancy but they spurned their chances without really testing Harrison, while at the other end, Wayne Mouselli?s rasping shot cannoned off the Falmouth crossbar with the keeper well beaten. The game turned on controversy a minute into the second half. Callington centre half Luke MacPherson met the elbow of a Falmouth player on the halfway line and lay poleaxed on the floor. To the constenation of the visiting players the referee waved play on and Falmouth capitalised to deadly effect with a goal by Johnny Ludlam. The Blue and Whites did not fold and continued to take the fight to the home side. For the final 20 minutes it was the visitors who looked more like scoring with Charlie Blair and Pete Floyd both creating all sorts of problems for the home defence. Falmouth held on though until the final whistle but they knew they were in a game. Next up for Callington first team is the home tie with Porthleven on March 5, St Pirans Day, at Ginsters Marshfield Parc. Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier League Padstow United 0 Callington Town 1 AFTER succumbing to two successive 2-1 defeats at the hands of the improving Sticker, Callington went to Padstow and came away with all three points. This was an outstanding victory that will do so much for the confidence of the newly built side. The wind played a large part in this game with Padstow having the elements at their backs in the first half. They failed to capitalise on it, though and were made to pay the ultimate price late on in the second period when Tony Truscott lashed the ball home to give his side all three points. BodminTrophies Duchy League Division Two Callington Town 1 Tywardreath RBL 0 A SECOND half strike from Shane Richards gave Callington a revenge victory over a useful Tywardreath side at Stoke Climsland that lifted the hearts of both the side and new manager John Mowbray. It was a credit to the club that all three teams played, with many players sidelined with a flu outbreak but those who did play in this Duchy Two battle did the club and themselves proud with this display. The matches come thick and fast for the team as they travel to Foxhole in the league next Saturday.
