A great day was had by all at the Bere Alston Carnival, Fun Day and Jubilee Picnic. The weather held out this year for the carnival and the quality of the entries again surpassed previous years. The Theme this year was 'special events.'
Prizes went to Rainbows (first group walkers), Brownies (second group walkers), Edgecombe Hotel (first comedy float and overall winner), Women's Institute (second comedy float), Tracey's Childminding (first artistic float), Tiddy Winks/Chatterbox (second artistic float), Emma and Stephen Kirby (first something different), West View Care Home (second something different), Judith Mills and Jessica Barrowman (first one or two walkers, Milly Shaw second one or two walkers), Nuffield 1060 vintage tractor (first outstanding vehicle), Sunbeam vintage car (second outstanding vehicle). Fun Day was not the wash out organisers we expected and it turned out to be glorious weather.
A fantastic time was had by all in the craft tent, plate smash, and dog show. Emerge Youth Circus performed a fire twirling, eating and juggling display. Emazdad did his usual superb job of entertaining both young and old alike.
Stunt trials bike rider Andrei Burton and colleague Jack Gear showed off their world class bike skills to an awed crowd — especially when Andrei jumped over the carnival secretary! The dog show proved ever popular this year with the overall winner being Steve with Cheekie, who not only won best in show, but also best veteran and best pedigree
The Jubilee picnic had to be moved to the school hall due to the rain, but nevertheless proved to be a great success. The children enjoyed the arts and craft activities which included crown making, a treasure hunt, and cupcake decorating, and balloon models for all – of which the palm trees proved very popular! All children of primary age and under from the parish were presented with a special commemorative Jubilee coin.
Show secretary Fiona Maddock of the Bere Alston Carnival committee said:?'Thanks to all who came and supported the events and all those who helped in putting them on and running them.
