SSAFA Forces Help (The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association), which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, is the national charity helping serving and ex-service men, women and their families in need.
The charity exists to help according to need all men and women serving, or who have served at any time, in the Armed Forces of the Crown, and their families and dependants, which includes widows and widowers.
Through a network of county branches, trained volunteers (from all walks of life) act as friends to people with problems and difficulties, and obtain financial support when needed.
There will be a street collection in Tavistock on behalf of SSAFA Forces Help on Saturday, February 13 and through your columns I would like to enlist your readers' support for this cause.
