PEOPLE are being warned not to ride motorbikes on Crowndale fields where a £1.8 million project to improve the football pitches is taking place.

The flattened area where six new pitches are being created has been ready for seeding twice but vehicles, mainly motorcycles, have hampered the work, by churning up the ground.

Mhairi McCall of the Crowndale Recreation Association said the signs were being erected to make people aware that the work was taking place and she urged riders not to take bikes up there.

'It may be the case that motorcyclists are not aware of what we are doing at Crowndale but it is a community project for the people of Tavistock and we cannot afford to keep repairing the damage,' she said.

'As soon as the rain stops we will be reseeding the area.'
